The Optical Identification Program for the EUVE Sky Survey
Abstract
Most of the observations for the Extreme Ultraviolet Explorer mission all-sky survey were obtained between August 1992 and January 1993. Subsequently, gaps in the survey observations, produced when short pointings to calibration objects were taken, will be filled by June 1993. At that time, the sky survey will be more than 95% complete. The data, accumulated in four bands between 70 and 700 Angstroms, are being used to create maps and catalogs of EUV sources. In addition, detected sources and maps are being accumulated from the Deep Survey instrument which was pointed along the ecliptic during the scanning survey. Detected EUV sources are compared to known catalogs and finding charts for each field are made at STScI. The finding charts and cataloged information are culled to produce observing lists for imaging and spectroscopic observing programs. The detailed strategy for assembling the detected sources and obtaining the subsequent identification of the optical counterparts to the EUV emitters will be presented in this poster. This work has been supported by NASA contract NAS5-30180.
